Exploits of Moominpappa (The)
by Tove Jansson
Age Range: 9-11
Tove Jansson’s ‘Moomin’ books have become modern-day classics. They first appeared in 1945 and continued until 1971 by which time 11 titles had been published. Jansson was Finnish but she wrote the books in Swedish and did all the illustrations herself. Puffin Books have published several titles in the Moomin series.
Moominpappa’s long expected memoirs are here at last. With his secret ambition of getting his life story into print, he tells of how he was abandoned at birth and left on the doorstep of an orphanage; of his many wonderful exploits and experiences, and of meeting his beloved Moominmamma.
This classic series by Tove Jansson never ages and is as enjoyable today as when it was written, and the amusing antics of the Moomin family and their friends remain undiminished. Often woven into the stories and carefully disguised are little moral lessons and philosophical observations made by the characters that add authenticity.
