Alfie The Werewolf: Werewolf Secrets
by Paul van Loon
Age Range: 6-8
This is the fifth book in the ‘Alfie the Werewolf’ adventures by Dutch author Paul van Loon about Alfie who is no ordinary boy – at full moon he transforms into a werewolf!
Alfie, Tim and Noura have gone on holiday with Tim’s parents to a cottage in the forest recommended by Grandpa Werwolf. Although it is supposed to be a holiday free from werewolf adventures, it’s not long before they discover that something is amiss. While out exploring in the woods Alfie and Noura stumble upon a weeping rock, then they discover a ghostly house and a group of werewolf orphans under the control of big Mooma. There are definitely strange goings on and it seems that Grandpa Werewolf knows the secrets of the lurking in the forest.
Paul van Loon is one of Holland’s most popular writers and has sold over one million copies of his titles in the Netherlands alone. The plucky Alfie is endearing and the engaging adventure stories together with the delightful comic black and white illustrations by Hugo van Look are ideal for the 6-9 age group.
There are a total of six books in the ‘Alfie’ series that have been translated into English but they are individual stories and can be read separately. The other titles are: Birthday Surprise, Full Moon, Wolf Wood, Silvertooth and The Evil Triplets.
