Where is the Frog?
by Geraldine Elschner
Age Range: 6-8
Perched on a water lily, Antoinette, a young frog, dives for cover when she sees a man approaching the pond believing he is a ‘frog hunter’. The toad tells her there is no need to be afraid because Mister Claude is merely searching for beautiful flowers to paint. From that moment on Antoinette is determined to be in one of the artist’s paintings which results in some very comical consequences.
This charming, humorous tale, by Géraldine Elschner was inspired by Claude Monet’s paintings of the pond near his home in Giverny. The different sizes and bright colours of the text matches the joyful burst of colour in the beautiful illustrations by Stéphane Girel. It all blends seamlessly together on every page capturing the spirit of Monet’s paintings.
At the back of the book there are eight reproductions of Monet’s paintings at Giverny, as well as two double-page spreads about his life and work. Another beautiful art book from Prestel in the ‘Pictures That Tell Stories: Art for Children’ series.
