Arcadia Falls
by Kai Meyer
Age Range: 14+
After the savage murder of Quattrini, a leading anti-mafia judge by some frighteningly large shift-shaping bird-like Harpies, Rosa and Alessandro, must flee because they are implicated in the judge’s murder. Hunted by the police and Mafia alike they need to find a place of safety. The Hungry Man has just been released from prison and he has one ultimate goal – to become capo di capo of all the warring mafia clans by re-enacting an ancient Arcadian myth that allows him to become all powerful. But in order to activate these plans he needs to find Rosa and Alessandro.
This third and final part of the Arcadian trilogy by German author Kai Meyer gathers apace and is full of action-packed suspenseful detail.
Rosa and Alessandro need to discover what the sinister, mysterious TABULA is; find the scientist Eduard Sigismondis, whose experiments with crossing different species and splitting genes, particularly on Arcadians has had disastrous consequences; and for Rosa, a more personal mission of finding her father.
As ever, Meyer weaves a dark and thrilling tale of many complexities. Anthea Bell’s excellent translation brings this cleverly combined fantasy of ancient myths and realistic ruthless brutality of the Costa Nostra together seamlessly.
