This Is My Treehouse
by Guillaume Gueraud
Age Range: 6-8
A treehouse has been built high up between the branches of a tall tree, in the forest behind the narrator’s grandparents’ garden. Old wood, fern and rope tied the way Grandpa has demonstrated, in strong knots make up this hidden den. And Grandma’s old parasol comes in useful too.
“This is my pirate ship. My helicopter. My palace. My anything and anywhere. My wildest adventures and biggest dreams. The perfect place for me. This is my treehouse.”.
French award-winning author Guillaume Guéraud shows the power of a child’s inventiveness as they sit in their treehouse letting their imagination run riot. A charming story, translated by Polly Lawson and illustrated by Alfred, a graphic novel artist, illustrator and screenwriter, it explores the imaginary adventures of childhood and the importance of having our own space.
The pen and ink and watercolour artwork by Alfred uses vibrant and bold colours that enhance the magical work the child is enveloped in – from the treehouse resting on a large bug lying across some magnificent flowers to a scene of the treehouse perched high up in a snow-covered tree – lifting the story and capturing the drama within the child’s mind.
