Elephant Elements
by Pittau & Gervais
Age Range: Under_5
The elephant takes on all manner of shapes in this innovative picture book of opposites. Each page has a word and a drawing of an elephant that illustrates the word. Facing pages have opposite words and drawings. Elephants can be big and small or wide and narrow; you can have the front and back of an elephant or it can be long or short. There are some unusual and funny ones too such as visible and invisible, happy and feathery, humped and dented or straight and twisted. Elephants can also be alight or extinguished and fresh or rotten! A set of questions at the end of the book will encourage the reader to look at the images again to find out the answers.
Francisco Pittau and Bernadette Gervais have created a clever and witty picture book that is imaginative and will appeal to adults as much as children. The laminated pages make this book robust and allow for it to be used again and again which it most surely will be!
