Hammer Soup
by Ingrid and Dieter Schubert
Age Range: Under_5
Kate keeps her house and garden very tidy and she never shares her vegetables with anyone. One morning she is rudely awakened by the sound of banging. A giant has moved in next door and is building a monstrosity of a house. Brian the giant tries to be friendly but Kate is having none of it and sets to work fencing in her garden. Throughout the summer while Kate works, Brian plays, ignoring all the repairs that should be done to his house. Soon he begins to realise that he should have taken Kate’s advice, when his house is blown away
in a raging storm. Kate invites the cold and hungry Brian into her house,
although she is reluctant to give him any of her food. Brian provides the solution by suggesting that he makes some delicious hammer soup!
Vivid caricature style of artwork by this husband and wife team, full of detail, makes this an ideal book to share with young children.
