Hey, Who's in the Loo?
by Harmen van Straaten
Age Range: Under_5
Bear desperately needs to go to the loo but the door is locked and the toilet occupied. It’s not long before a queue starts to form outside as he’s joined by Pig, Elephant, Tiger, Penguin, Monkey and Giraffe. When will their patient wait finally come to an end? Who is in the look and why are they taking so long?
Hey, Who’s in the Loo? is a hilarious picture book by award-winning Dutch author and illustrator Harmen van Straaten. The clear rhyming text, adeptly translated into English by Laura Watkinson, is sure to have children giggling from the outset.
“Along comes Pig and says, “Oh is there a queue?
But I really need to use the loo.
Can I go first? I’ll be really fast.”
“No,” says Bear. “I’m first. And you’re last!”
The expressive watercolour illustrations are what really carry this funny story about going to the toilet - pig carrying his own toilet roll, all the animals crossing their legs or hopping to and fro as their patients begins to fade. No wonder Hey, Who’s in the Loo was the most tweeted about picture book in the Netherlands in 2015 as it’s a riot of a book.
