Christmas Eve at the Mellops'
by Tomi Ungerer
Age Range: Under_5
It is Christmas Eve and the four Mellops brothers – Casimir, Isidor, Felix and Ferdinand each have the same idea – to surprise the family with a Christmas tree. As a result, Christmas Eve is filled with too many trees and lots of tears as they each bring home a tree.
The brothers don’t know what to do with all the trees but the ever-resourceful Mr Mellops suggests that they give them away to people who don’t have one. This is easier said than done as the brothers soon discover, but eventually they are able to spread some real festive Christmas cheer.
Ungerer manages to get the message of sharing across in this beautiful Christmas story which will make it an ideal present or book to share and read aloud for the festive season.
This is another delightful picture book in the Mellops series, reissued by Phaidon, from the internationally acclaimed Alsace writer and illustrator Tomi Ungerer. Its retro feel will appeal to a brand new audience of children and be as popular now as when it was first published more than 50 years ago confirming that the Mellops’ really are the world’s most adventurous family of pigs.
