Emmett and Caleb
by Karen Hottois
Age Range: 6-8
Emmett and Caleb are best friends and next door neighbours. Although they both have different personalities they do spend most of their time together. While Emmett wakes up bright and early, Caleb likes to watch the stars and sleep all morning. Every morning Emmett takes Caleb breakfast in bed and Caleb always grumbles at being woken up. This doesn’t stop them doing plenty together – going for walks, enjoying nature and entertaining friends. Sometimes though, when friends are so close, there can be problems with communication leading inadvertently to misunderstandings.
Readers will enjoy this enchanting story by French author Karen Hottois, translated by Sarah Ardizzone, as they accompany the two friends on their amble through the seasons. French illustrator Delphine Renon has beautifully captured the deep affection between Emmett and Caleb as well as the changing seasons in her pen and ink and watercolour artwork.
