Inkdeath
by Cornelia Funke
Age Range: 12+
In this concluding volume of Cornelia Funke's bestselling trilogy it picks up where Inkspell left off. The dark magical Inkworld is under siege; the evil Adderhead and his minions have taken control of the city of Ombra, and through Meggie’s father Mo’s unwilling involvement, has received the gift of eternal life. Adderhead’s supporters roam the countryside terrorising the peasants and kidnapping their children. The ransom is the mysterious Bluejay, a Robin Hood–style character.
Dustfinger is dead, the Inkheart author, Fenoglio has turned to drink and the odious Orpheus uses his own ability to bring words to life by rewriting Fenoglio's work in order to create buried treasure all over the Inkworld. Meanwhile Meggie is pining for her friend Farid, who has become a slave to Orpheus. Meggie and Mo know that they need to find a way to rewrite the wrongs of the past but it could mean making a dangerous deal with death itself.
The themes in this final volume of the ‘Inkworld’ series are far more complex than its predecessors, but there are still plenty of twists and turns that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.
