Trelo mou Amaxidio
by Merkourious Avtziz
Age Range: 6-8
Trelo mou Amaxidio was submitted for the ‘Reading the Way’: Inclusive Books from Around the World Research. The book is not available in English but is referred to as My Crazy Wheelchair. As the focus was mainly on picture books, due to costs of translation of more text-based titles and the practicalities of getting focus groups to read longer books, My Crazy Wheelchair was not explored in the same depth as other titles.
Nina has a zany little wheelchair that she calls Susan. Together they have lots of fun and get themselves into all sorts of mischief.
The word 'crazy' in Greek is meant as a term of endearment – Nina loves her wheelchair, it’s an affectionate turn of phrase, meaning special, precious. So, if someone were to do something adventurous, then to call them 'crazy' is intended kindly.
