Clever Little Witch (The)
by Lieve Baeten
Age Range: Under_5
Lizzy the little witch finds a suitcase standing in front of the door to her house and because she is such a very curious little witch she can’t wait to open it.
“Hocus-pocus, witch’s ride,
Little suitcase, open wide!”
But no matter how many times she repeats the magic spell, the little suitcase remains firmly shut. Not only that, other things seem to open around her home instead – the coffeepot, the cactus flower and the cake tin. When Lizzy sees a witch flying in the sky towards the Witch Hospital she decides to follow. Lizzy tries her spell again but this time it’s a box of pills, the doctor’s case and the windows that all fly open but still the little suitcase does not open. After following another witch heading for the Witch train station Lizzy finds that when she chants the spell this time all the luggage flies open. Will Lizzy ever be able to work out the correct spell?
This is another delightful tale about Lizzy the little witch following on from The Curious Little Witch. When the author and illustrator Lieve Baeten died tragically in a car accident in 2001, the text of The Clever Little Witch was already written, and there were some sketches as well as some finished pictures. Lieve’s son Wietse Fossey, a web graphic designer, was able to complete the book with the aid of computer graphics as it was his wish that em>The Clever Little Witch should reach the hands of the children for whom it was intended.
