All's Happy That Ends Happy
by Rose Lagercrantz
Age Range: 6-8
Dani seems to have disappeared. Her classmates donít know where she is and neither does her best friend Ella. Dani hasnít been to school for seven weeks after getting sick with tonsillitis followed by pneumonia which landed her in a hospital where she still is.
Dani can usually be happy about almost anything. Sometimes sheís happy just because she isnít unhappy! Or because they are having pasta for dinner. Even in hospital Dani is working out how to make everyone happy, but being apart from Ella is getting harder and harder and with the breakdown of her fatherís relationship with Sadie, Dani is suddenly not sure how their story will end.
This is the seventh Chapter book, translated by Julia Marshall, about Dani and itís still as fresh as the very first title. Swedish author Rose Lagercrantz has a wonderful insight into a childís mind as well as the clever observation of human relationships, particularly Daniís time spent in Italy with her father, grandmother and his Italian family and when Ella and Dani finally meet up again in Northbrook. The humour is carefully calibrated so that the real anxieties of a child experiencing the different challenges of life are balanced with some funny episodes and dialogue complemented by the expressive pen-and-ink black-and-white artwork of Eva Eriksson.
