Bugs at Christmas
by Beatrice Alemagna
Age Range: Under_5
Christmas is fast approaching. In the blanket where the little bugs live they meet up to plan their festive celebrations. “Let’s have a party” suggests Little Fat Bug. “We can make some dust canapés and crumb pudding”. Then the rivalry starts as each little bug competes with a different idea for the celebrations believing that Christmas will be the best in their house: some want singing, others dancing or there should be lots of brightly coloured decorations or lots of candles. Then there is a surprise that stops them all in their track; after all “there is only one way to be happy – and that’s by being together”.
The use of repetitive language makes the story both comical and direct for young children. Together with the unique visual style of wool embroidery and collage make the little bugs come alive through the different coloured threads and fabrics, buttons, and felted wool. This is another charming ‘bug book’ in the series by Beatrice Alemagna following on from Bugs in the Blanket, Bugs in the Garden and The Bug Next Door.
