Mr Leons Paris
by Barroux
Age Range: Under_5
Mr. Leon is a taxi driver and he knows Paris better than anyone. He criss-crosses the city day and night in his orange taxi. From behind the wheel Mr. Leon travels the world without leaving Paris. He’s seen some strange things while travelling across the city and had an odd assortment of passengers with destinations as diverse as Hell’s Passage, Bad Boys’ Road, Peking Passage with a stop-off on China Street, Morocco Street and Pyramid Street. One day Mr. Leon decides it’s time to sell his taxi because he wants to set sail to discover the real world.
The pencil and pen and ink illustrations with watercolour wash are almost child-like with the straight lines giving it a stylish simplicity. There is an appealing hand-drawn map of Paris at the back of the book that children (and adults) will enjoy poring over and trying to find the various locations mentioned in the story.
Translated from French by award-winning translator Sarah Ardizzone, this is a delectable picture book that is sure to become a firm favourite.
