Pinocchio - Usborne Young Reading
by Retold by Katie Daynes. Based on the story by Carlo Collodi
Age Range: 6-8
This is the universally well-known story of the wooden puppet carved from a piece of pine wood by Geppetto a poor woodcarver. Geppetto loves Pinocchio dearly and although the wayward puppet does love his father he finds it almost impossible to be good. From the moment Pinocchio is created he has a mind of his own and more than anything he longs to be a real boy.
When Pinocchio meets the Blue Fairy she promises to grant his wish if he can demonstrate that he is brave, loyal and honest. But Pinocchio just loves having fun and is easily tempted into making the wrong decisions so he stumbles from one misadventure to another until he realises what is really important to him.
Based on the story by Carlo Collodi, The Adventures of Pinocchio is retold by Katie Daynes. This version is part of the Usborne Young Reading series which combines exciting stories with easy reading text. The story is faithful to the original but has been put in clear, straightforward text making it a perfect book for the 6-8 age group. Beautifully illustrated by Italian artist Mauro Evangelista it will ensure that Pinocchio is instantly recognizable as the famous puppet made out of the wood.
The book comes with a DVD that brings the story to life on screen, with music, sound effects and characterized readings. This is simple, visual storytelling at its best and is ideal for helping children learn to read.
