A Summer Full of Love
Age Range: 12+
A Summer Full of Love is a collection of eloquent stories in parallel Turkish-English text for older adolescents. Füruzan is noted for her sensitive characterisations, often of the poor, and of women and children. The writing style of these three stories reflects both the culture and philosophy of Turkey, and presents quite a challenge for readers unused to a poetic, picaresque tradition.
This is a book of great seriousness, which simultaneously disturbs, intrigues and poses questions. It offers an insight into a totally different way of viewing life, and raises many debates concerning culture and expectations. The parallel texts would assist Turkish speaking learners of English, whilst fascinating those who have no Turkish. A challenging and immensely rewarding read.
