My Wild Sister and Me
by Iris Wewer
Age Range: Under_5
Having a big sister to play with can be fun for a little brother; sometimes they pretend to be bears romping all over the house, or birds flying in the sky. But when she acts the giraffe, strutting around, ignoring him and not answering when he shouts, “Do You Want To Play?” little brother invariably becomes rather irritable. One day while playing ‘Catch-the-Bunny’, they are interrupted by his sister’s friend who asks her to go swimming. Big sister goes off leaving a disgruntled little brother to plot his revenge.
It is the comic-style illustrations that tell more of the story – the wild, big sister striding about as a giraffe while her brother, in his skunk costume, unceremoniously breaks wind or the expressions of the family dog, teddy bear and other creatures that help to comment on the action. There is lots of engaging details which make this a funny book.
German author and illustrator Iris Wewer has created a quirky picture book that deals with sibling relationships - a truthful snapshot that young children and parents will identify with.
