Crash (The): The Valley Book (2)
by Krystyna Kuhn
Age Range: 14+
This is the second book about ‘The Valley’ from German writer Krystyna Kuhn following on from The Game. The students of Grace College, which is located in a remote isolated valley in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, still have a mystery to solve; what happened to the eight students who disappeared 40 years ago whose memorial they discovered at the end of The Game?
Katie wants to climb Mount Ghost that looms high above the College; she has her own reasons for doing so. She sets out to get a small party together to climb this impenetrable mountain. Julia too, is anxious for clues of what happened all those years ago and is determined to discover what connects her father to the mysterious Grace College.
Most of the characters that appeared in The Game are here too; the prickly Katie, Julia, the moody, cool and aloof Chris, who is now her boyfriend, David, who has a soft spot for Julia, and Benjamin, forever behind his camera. There are two new characters, Ana, an experienced climber who leads the expedition and the mysterious Paul Forster who is the son of one of the teachers at Grace and has just been released from prison.
The team experience danger and mystery lurking around every corner and Kuhn has written another page-turning thriller full of suspense. The Valley is still full of secrets and no one can hide from their past. Nothing is as it seems and the clever writing ensures that the reader begins to be suspicious of everyone as they travel deeper into the story.
As with The Game the book ends on a cliff-hanger with readers being left wanting more, but sadly there are no plans to translate the next book in the series.
