Detective Gordon: A Complicated Case
by Ulf Nilsson
Age Range: 9-11
There’s something amiss in the Forest. All the animals seem troubled and some are very upset, but no one dares to report the incidents to the police. It’s up to Detective Gordon and his little police assistant Buffy to investigate and discover the culprit who is making all the other animals’ lives a misery. They split the workload with Buffy out and about questioning the suspects, while Gordon stays in bed to think. It is after all, a very complicated case and he thinks best when he’s lying in bed!
Award-winning Swedish author Ulf Nilsson has created another delectable book in the Detective Gordon series. Simply and beautifully told, (translated by Julia Marshall), it is a warm and funny story. The characters of Detective Gordon and his little accomplice are completely endearing and the humour that permeates through is enhanced by the enchanting pen and ink watercolour by Gitte Spee. There are full page illustrations of Detective Gordon in the comfort of his bed, Buffy painstaking learning her alphabet as well as pages interspersed with small vignettes – Buffy helping the rather cumbersome Detective Gordon home after he trips over and the police chief reading the ‘Book of Law’ to Buffy at bedtime.
