Mr Catsky, Mira and the Sea
by Oksana Lushchevska
Age Range: Under_5
One morning while having breakfast Mira is distracted by a picture of the sea on her cup. She has never visited the seaside before because it’s too far away so all she can do is dream. Picking up her favourite book she flips through the pages and suddenly Mr Catsky steps off the page and sits down on a chair in front of her. With his arrival, Mira is plunged into an exciting and unexpected journey.
Oksana Lushchevska is a Ukrainian writer and translator and is the author of many books for children and young adults. Lushchevska has created (and also translated) a heart-warming story of friendship and imagination as Mr Catsky takes Mira on a magical trip to the seaside. The soft palette of colours and expressive illustrations by Ukrainian artist Violetta Borigard bring this beautiful story to life.
Mr Catsky, Mira and the Sea is one of a series of bilingual books from the new publisher Pineapple Lane. Each title is written, translated and illustrated by authors and artists whose lives have been disrupted by conflict. All the books are free to refugee families and the communities they are living with and are distributed through schools, libraries and grassroots organisations.
