Detective Gordon: A Case With a Bang
by Ulf Nilsson
Age Range: 9-11
Here’s another delectable tale in the Detective Gordon series by Swedish author Ulf Nielson (1948-2021), translated by Julia Marshall.
“Has something terrible happened?” asks the crow. “I’m pretty sure it has!” Chief Detective Buffy is writing up her report and there has only been one incident of noise reported the previous night – someone had tipped over Badger’s rubbish bin causing a terrific crash. Detective Buffy decides she needs to investigate and bravely sets out alone in that night to catch the perpetrator in action. Before long she has a mystery to solve when there appear to be some strange creatures lurking in the mountains. Even though the lovable philosophical Detective Gordon has now retired and is engrossed in troll stories, he is always ready with his pearls of wisdom.
Full of warmth, humour and insight together with the lovely expressive and humorous watercolour artwork by Gitte Spee, this is another touching and funny story in this much-loved series.
Other titles in the series are Detective Gordon: The First Case (2015) and Detective Gordon: A Complicated Case (2016), A Case in Any Case (2017), and Detective Gordon: A Case for Buffy (2018) all reviewed on the website.
