The clear scientific explanations, together with the playful illustrations by Bernardo P. Carvalho, in a bold two-colour palette make this an ideal book to dip into. For anyone curious about fauna, flora and the natural world this book is a must. Whether you live in the city or the country there are plenty of activities that will help the whole family get started and go out to explore.
From botany, biology, geology, oceanography, planetary science, the sky and weather there is a vast array of knowledge here. Filled with incredible detail, whether you want to find out about Worms, Slugs and Snails; signs animals leave behind (with lots of examples which can easily be spotted), Bugs and Critters or Mammals there is something for everyone. You can find out the difference between a Frog and a Toad or Reptiles that are always close to the ground. The chapter on Birds has an amazingly detailed drawing of the anatomy of a Bird and a diagram showing how Birds can fly. There are also chapters on Trees and Flowers, Rocks, Oceans and Beaches, Stars, Moon and Sun, Up in Space and, Clouds, Wind and Rain.
At the front of the book is an Overview – 'Us and Nature', ‘Where to go’, ‘Important things to know’ and ‘What to take with you’. In the centre there are four pages of full-colour, double-page spreads of species identification and at the back there is a glossary, timeline and a section on 'If you want to know more'.
