Moro at the Holiday Camp
by Kurt Eigl
Age Range: 6-8
On an island in a small village by the sea, lives a black donkey named Moro and his young owner Nicola. Moro has many friends; Gri-Gri the hen, farmer Stefan and his eleven children and Bif Bat, the kind old robber who has now stopped his criminal activity and become an honest citizen. As many tourists visit the island, Bif Bat has the bright idea of opening a holiday camp to raise funds for the village.
This short story by Austrian author Kurt Eigl, translated by Ena and George Muller, with beautiful colour illustrations by Wilfried Zeller-Zellenberg, was originally published in 1962 and although outdated in some respects, it maintains the feeling of a more peaceful and simple life where people in a small community help each other for the benefit of everyone. This is the second story about Moro and his friends. The first one is called Moro the Little Black Monkey.
