Day No One Was Angry (The)
by Toon Tellegen
Age Range: 6-8
The Day No One Was Angry contains twelve short stories that each deal with the theme of anger seen through the eyes of different animals. Some of the animals try to understand their anger, some try to tame it, while others let their anger overwhelm them. The Hyrax begs the sun not to set and the elephant argues with himself about whether or not he should climb a tree while the lobster goes from door-to-door selling all kinds of anger from his suitcase and toad is so very angry that it is left to ant to advise him on how to deal with it.
These wry, philosophical tales by internationally acclaimed Dutch writer Toon Tellegen show anger in all its guises but also offer a gentle reflection of the nature of human emotions.
French illustrator Marc Boutavant (of Around the World with Mouk fame), has created stunningly expressive watercolour illustrations of these endearingly grumpy animals. Each page is packed full of rich detail from the vignettes to full-page spreads. Every stage of anger is so cleverly represented in the body language and facial expressions of each animal.
This is a winning combination form a master storyteller and an artist who has produced visual images to feast your eyes upon.
