Age Range: 6-8
Taking Time is a gentle poem that has been inspired by the principles of mindfulness. Children are encouraged to take time to listen, to feel, to contemplate and to experience the wonder of nature from many different perspectives.
Although not a translation this lyrical picture book by UK artist Jo Loring-Fisher, whose previously published title with Lantana, Maisie's Scrapbook received a starred Kirkus review, is universal by giving a glimpse into life in other countries. The atmospheric illustrations capture the essence of different cultures: a Japanese boy collects fallen cherry blossom in his satchel "taking time to gather up the blossom dancing free" or a father and his child astride a camel in the desert who are "taking time to contemplate the journey as we roam.”
There is a map of the world on the inside front cover and a quiz at the back of the book for children to search the illustrations and find the keepsake each child holds in their hands.
