Book of Time (The): 1
by Guillaume Prevost
Age Range: 12+
Fourteen-year-old Sam's father has been missing for ten days. It isn't the first time that he has disappeared, but he’s never been missing for so long before. Having escaped a judo tournament due to cancellation, and a beating from his bullying opponent, Sam decides to do some investigating into his father’s disappearance.
Searching his father’s dusty Antiquarian book shop for clues, Sam discovers a hidden room containing an old book, a strange coin, and an oddly carved stone. When he slips the coin into the statue, he travels back in time - to medieval Iona, Scotland (800 A.D) -just in time for a Viking invasion!
It's the first step in an adventure that takes Sam to France during the First World War and then to ancient Egypt. After he returns to his own time, Sam struggles to understand how the time-travel device works and what it all means. Finding the old book opened at a page with an illustration of Vlad Tepes’ (Dracula’s) castle, Sam knows that something is wrong and that he must go back one more time to try and find out what has really happened to his father.
The dramatic cover art will draw readers into this time-travel story and the fast-paced adventure. The book ends on a cliff-hanger with a mystery as yet unsolved. Readers will eagerly await book two in the series of ‘The Seven Coins’ which author, Guillaume Prévost – recognised in his native France as a hugely successful crime writer – is already working on.
