Princess Gift Book (The)
by Tiny Fisscher
Age Range: 6-8
Bloomsbury Children’s Books (2001) HB £10.99 ISBN: 0 7475 55110 3
Four different stories about princesses are contained in this fun activity book
about how to be a princess. Princess Hoppity-Hup lives in the desert with her
selfish father, the Sultan, who won’t let anyone use his sand! Princess Rosalie
is a traditional princess who believes herself to be ugly because her wicked
stepmother has cast a spell on her. Princess Sparkle invites everyone to her
party only to be nearly thwarted by a wicked witch and Princess Oceana’s
wish to visit the sea is fulfilled in a very unusual way!
At the beginning of each story practical tips are provided on how to dress like each princess using old clothes, strips of material, ribbon etc. Ideas range from making a
princess handbag out of a marble bag and filling it with either beads, buttons,
dried beans or uncooked macaroni – these ingredients also come in useful for
Princess Oceana’s noisy skirt! – to white plastic beakers for sleeves, a cushion
for a skirt bustle, cotton wool balls to make a necklace and decorations made
with potato cut-outs and paint on the material. Ideal for all those princessmad
girls!
