Babar on Paradise Island
by Phyllis de Brunhoff
Age Range: 6-8
Babar and his family are enjoying a day aboard their boat when a sudden storm sweeps them far away from Celesteville and they end up shipwrecked on a coral reef. The elephants are able to make their way to shore on a nearby tropical island which appears to be uninhabited. Soon, however, Babar and his family make an exotic new friend who shows them how to find food and shelter and introduces them to all the wonders of the island. Despite the fun they have singing songs, telling stories and even baking delicious treats, the elephants yearn for their home in Celesteville. Will they ever be rescued and what will happen to their newfound friend?
Babar on Paradise Island is a tale of friendship and discovery. Created by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931 from an original bedtime story by his wife, Babar has lived on through his son Laurent de Brunhoff who has kept his spirit alive for more than 50 years. Building on the original framework he has created many new and exciting adventures for the elephant family.
