Dali and the Path of Dreams
by Anna Obiols
Age Range: 6-8
One afternoon young Salvi is playing on the beach when he notices something gleaming on the sand – a bright, shiny key. In fact it is a magic key that unlocks the drawer where the Spanish artist Salvador Dali stores all his dreams. As soon as Salvi picks it up he is immediately transported to a magical world where he is able to ride on a long-legged elephant, encounters a chef who tosses clocks like pancakes, finds a bread-head cyclist, a wriggling piano and flies on a floating boat.
Spanish author Anna Obiols has created a charming story with simple straightforward text. The striking colourful illustrations by Spanish artist Subi across double-page spreads help to bring the magic alive. This is an excellent way of introducing children to art, the subject of dreams and the surrealist work of Dali. At the back of the book there is a useful short biography of Dali that will help to put the book in context.
