Sticker Art Shapes: Vassily Kandinsky
by Slyvie Delpech and Caroline Leclerc
Age Range: 6-8
The Sticker Art Shapes series from France are a fun way for children to discover the works of some of the world’s most famous artists while at the same time enabling them to create their own unique masterpiece.
This book explores six of Russian artist Vassily Kandinsky ‘s paintings. He was considered to be one of the most important artists of the Twentieth century. He moved to Germany to study at the Academy of Fine Art in Munich and in 1906 began a two-year journey across Europe during which he discovered Impressionism. Over the years his style became more abstract, with large areas of colour appearing on the canvas next to lines and defined shapes.
At the front of the book is a helpful page of information about the artist, his life and work that will help to put the paintings into context.
Children can look at the original work and then try out their own version on the opposite page by arranging the re-useable stickers. They can experiment with colours, shapes and composition to recreate the original or produce their own individual piece of art.
Other titles in the series are: Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Alexander Calder, Sonia Delaunay, Paul Klee, Gustav Klimt, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol.
