Alphabet Family (The)
by Eva Montanari
Age Range: Under_5
Mummy A wants to write a story, but the page is blank because she can't think of what to write. A sudden hullabaloo makes her hurry downstairs to see what her children (b, c, d and so on) are up to. All of the letters are having fun taking part in activities that match their shapes – b is playing a b-shaped piano, f rides an f-shaped crocodile and p and q tuck into p & q-shaped food. This gives Mummy A the much needed inspiration to begin writing her story.
This is a book that can be used on two different levels. Firstly, it is a lovely story that parents can share with very young children who may not yet know their alphabet but who will, perhaps recognise some of the letters and just enjoy the story. Secondly, it is ideal for older children who can read and already recognise the letters as they will get the most from it. The abstract story together with Eva Montanari's inspired illustrations make this a unique picture book.
