Babar and the Ghost
by Larent de Brunhoff. Revised text Rose de Brunhoff
Age Range: 6-8
One beautiful day, Babar and Celeste take their children – Pom, Flora, Alexander, Cousin Arthur, Cornelius and the Old Lady on a hike to the Black Castle. By the time they get there the weather has changed and they have to take refuge in the Castle. The others are worried that it might be haunted but Babar doesn’t believe in ghosts. When Cousin Arthur discovers a friendly, but mischievous ghost called Baron Bardula, they decide not to mention it and invite the ghost back to Celesteville where life is turned upside down. How will Babar bring peace and quiet back to the city?
Created by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931 from an original bedtime story by his wife, Babar has lived on through his son Laurent de Brunhoff who has kept his spirit alive for more than 50 years. Building on the original framework he has created many new and exciting adventures for the elephant family.
