Little Vampire (The)
by Angela Sommer-Bodenburg
Age Range: 9-11
A well-known popular children’s title, first translated into English in 1982. Nine-year-old Tony is a horror story addict – he reads anything from Frankenstein to Dracula and vampire tales – so he is rather alarmed when a little vampire called Rudolph lands on his windowsill one evening. This is the start of some hilarious adventures into the vampire world involving visits to Rudolph’s home – The Vampire Family Vault – and having a close encounter with the cemetery keeper who is the vampires’
sworn enemy. Tony hates the fact that his parents are so inquisitive about his new
friends and in a moment of rashness, invites Rudolph and his sister, Anna, to tea
to meet them!
The Little Vampire is the first in the series and although written over
25 years ago (1979), it is still as popular as ever. There are a total of 18 ‘Little
Vampire’ books, which have been made into film and television series.
