Akissi: More Tales of Mischief
by Marguerite Abouet
Age Range: 9-11
There’s never a dull moment when Akissi is around! She’s feisty, brash and full of confidence, with a real sense of mischief. Akissi lives with her mother, father, brother Fofana and pet monkey, Boubou. She is always getting into trouble and manages to cause mayhem wherever she goes.
Here are eighteen more outrageous stories about Akissi, from her tough start to the school year; a tricky commute to school; tackling a scary teacher or an even scarier witch doctor and meeting her nemesis in the classroom. ‘The Healing Poo’ story will make strong stomachs a prerequisite! A hilarious tale about Akissi and her quest to find some of the monster Chachatonga’s poo to make her ailing Boubou well again. At the end of the book there is even a recipe for a magic potion invented by Akissi.
Akissi is a popular French-language comic that follows the adventures of a mischievous West African girl by French author, Marguerite Abouet, who created the best-selling ‘Aya’ comic books for adults. Translated by Marie Bédrune, the humour in the text is complimented by the vibrant and colourful illustrations by Mathieu Sapin that capture the emotion in the facial expressions of the characters and African life so well.
