Tak-Tak!
by Soumitra Ranade
Age Range: 6-8
In a quiet village called Nanikhet, hidden deep in the Sahyadri Mountains, a young man dressed in outlandish clothes called Zaheer arrives. He looks around for a place to stay and is directed to an abandoned villa known as Diwan Khana. As he approaches a chill goes up his spine and he finds himself filled with a strange apprehension, but tired after his long day he decides that he has no choice but to stay in this strange place. The air is musty and there are cobwebs everywhere but Zaheer finds a small room where there is a rolled up mattress on the floor. Exhausted he falls asleep quickly. Tak-tak! Tak-tak! What is that noise? Is it a ghost? Zaheer tries to establish where it is coming from. Eventually Zaheer finds out what the noise is and it is not what he expected at all!
This is a charming tale by Indian author Soumitra Ranade about ghostly goings on. The collage, larger than life, illustrations, in muted colours by Shilo Shiv Suleman accompany the text perfectly helping to create a spooky atmosphere.
