Where is the Cake?
by Thé Tjong-Khing
Age Range: Under_5
On a table outside the house of Mr and Mrs Dog sits a mouth-watering cake. But it doesn’t stay there for long as a couple of very greedy mice steal it from right under their noses. A wild chase ensues as the thieves are chased through a variety of ever-changing landscapes. Readers will follow the cheeky thieves as they run through forests, bamboo jungles, rocks and mountains. Along the way they will encounter many other creatures that are experiencing adventures of their own – mischievous monkeys’ steal Miss Cat’s hat, Little Piglet goes astray and has a Chameleon who appears to have sat down in the wet paint. The cake looks as if it has been lost forever, but has it?
This delightful wordless picture book is an amusing adventure of look-and-find. Each double-page spread appears like a maze as it is packed with intricate detail. The watercolour illustrations are full of colour and the animals are endearingly comical. Every time a child looks at the pictures they will discover something new that they hadn’t noticed before. Ideal for parents to share with their children as there is always something new to find within the pages.
Originally from Java, Indonesia, Thé Tjong-Khing studied in the Netherlands and is now one of their most celebrated illustrators.
