Dragons: Father and Son
by Alexandre Lacroix
Age Range: Under_5
When Drake’s father tells him the time has come for him to prove himself as a Dragon by visiting the village and burning down some houses, Drake is less than keen. He doesn’t know what to do because he’s hardly ever breathed fire except to toast a tasty caterpillar. Drake needs to find a way to make his father proud of him without resorting to such extreme measures, but exactly how is he going to do this?
In this debut children’s book by French author Alexandre Lacroix, who is editor-in-Chief of Philosophe Magazine, teaches creative writing and is the author of several adult novels, Drake learns from the humans he meets in the village how to make even the grumpiest old dragon feel special.
The comic-style illustrations by Ronan Badel are hilarious. Whether it’s the old Dragon taking a snooze; a child leading Drake meekly to his school, which he hopes the young dragon will burn down, the group of children as they cuddle Drake whilst proudly showing him their artwork of a dragon or the cute pen-and-ink vignettes on the text pages. A lovely, funny story that is sure to appeal to all those dragon-lovers.
