Paradise Bird (The)
by Marcus Pfister
Age Range: 6-8
"I'm so bored!" "Nothing ever happens." croaked a raven. Another declares that nothing has ever happened while a third says nothing ever will! But then something does happen. A bright, colourful and very, very noisy creature makes a grand entrance as it crashes to the ground. The Paradise Bird has arrived and life will never be the same!
This is an amusing, wacky story from well-known Swiss author Marcus Pfister. There is lots of off-beat humour with the invention of a new dance based on the Hokey-Cokey which becomes the 'Crazy Croak-a-Croak-a' that the fun-loving Paradise Bird teaches the miserable ravens.
A pithy text allows the illustrations to take centre stage. Pfister's bold, engaging artwork sparkling with humour; the expressions of the ravens over the course of the story are hilarious. Underlying the fun there is a more serious message: the Paradise Bird teaches them positive thinking and introduces laughter into their uneventful lives of boredom and monotony. He explains that they don't need a reason to be happy and once found; they must not forget to share it.
