Rita and Whatsit go on a Picnic
by Jean-Philippe Arrou-Vignod
Age Range: Under_5
Here are the irresistible duo once again – Rita, the determined and rather bossy little girl, and Whatsit, the cheeky, playful, philosophical dog with no name. Rita is very excited because they are going to the countryside for a picnic, but she might have known that nothing would be straightforward with Whatsit around. Who has opened the crisps and nibbled the salami? It couldn’t have been Whatsit because he is too busy chasing a butterfly and having an encounter with a cow! When it begins to rain Whatsit is nowhere to be found, just where has he gone now?
Jean-Philippe Arrou-Vignod’s delightful dialogue between the two friends is accompanied by Olivier Tallec’s charming, minimalistic illustrations in black and red which are full of detail and wit. Other titles in the series are Rita and Whatsit! Rita and Whatsit at School, Rita and Whatsit at the Beech, Christmas with Rita and Whatsit and Rita and Whatsit’s New Friend.
