Gnomes' Winter Journey (The)
by Ernst Kreidolf
Age Range: Under_5
The forest is covered in a blanket of white as the first snow of winter has swept in. The Winter Queen has promised to visit and the woodland gnomes are excitedly getting ready to travel to their mountain cousins to welcome her to a special feast. It is a long journey through the cold forest and over snowy hills but with the help of some new friends they finally arrive just in time. There’s a delicious feast with the Winter Queen followed by lots of fun ice dancing, sledging, having snowball fights and walking in the woods before the Winter Queen has to say goodbye and the woodland gnomes set out on their long journey home.
This enchanting classic tale, written in 1924, from renowned German artist Ernst Kreidolf (1863-1956), who was best known for his children’s books about little folk, is available in English for the first time. The delicate watercolour snowscapes, in a style reminiscent of Sybille von Olfers, are beautifully atmospheric. A perfect gift for the festive season.
