I am so Clever
by Mario Ramos
Age Range: Under_5
I Am So Clever (Gecko Press)
On a gloriously sunny morning, the incorrigible and bullying wolf comes upon Little Red Riding Hood in the woods on her way to her grandmother’s house. The wolf is so egotistical that he believes he’s very clever so will easily outwit her and by the end of the day he’ll be having a mouth-watering meal of Grandmother for the main course and a little berry for dessert. “Don’t you know how dangerous it is to walk all alone in the woods? You could meet some ferocious creature… like a shark!” the wolf tells Little Red Riding Hood but she is not so easily duped. As his plan unravels the wolf discovers some unexpected hazards when he dons Grandma’s frilly nightie in an attempt at disguise. br>
I Am So Clever sees the return of the big bad wolf from one of Belgium’s great children’s author/illustrator’s Mario Ramos (1958-2012). With witty text, translated by Linda Burgess, and lively, bold and comical thickly brushed watercolour illustrations it’s a classic take on a fairy tale with an unusual twist at the end ensuring the wolf gets his comeuppance.
The two other titles about wolf in English are I Am So Strong and I Am So Handsome published in 2007 (both on the website).
