Winkie and his Magic Flute
by Willy Schermele
Age Range: 6-8
It is now spring. Three baby bunnies and a baby robin have disappeared from the forest. Some items of clothing have also been stolen. But soon the woodland residents find out that Mrs Caw-Caw, the crow, is wearing the missing items of clothing, but she knows nothing about the missing babies. Winkie is the hero of the day who goes to the rescue playing a melodic tune on his flute which enchants all the creatures, including Green-Eye the goblin from Gloomy Wood who turns out to be the perpetrator.
The Winkie series of books were written and illustrated by Dutch artist Willy Shermele (1904-1995) and were originally published in Holland in the 1950s. There are a total of 12 titles in the series.
