Teddy's Midnight Adventure
by Yoko Mori
Age Range: Under_5
Akiko is playing in the garden when her mother calls her inside. As she runs up the steps, her Teddy’s button eye pops out and sails through the air. Akiko searches in the grass but can’t find it anywhere. As she is getting ready to sleep, she wishes she were very small so that she could find the button easily on the garden floor. When Akiki wakes in the middle of the night she is amazed to find that she has become very tiny – now she and Teddy can search for his missing eye.
This is an enchanting story from Japan by author, painter and illustrator Yoko Mori, translated by Cathy Hirano. The two-colour pencil and crayon artwork with a palette of different shades of grey combined with the bursts of bright red of Akiko’s clothes are so evocative and full of expression. Teddy’s Midnight Adventure is a captivating story of a moonlit garden that becomes a magical place of adventure for a little girl with a big imagination.
