Trans-Siberian Railway (The)
by Alexandra Litvina
Age Range: 9-11
This large-format non-fiction picture book written by Russian author Alexandra Litvina and translated by Jane Bugaeva takes the reader on a fascinating train journey from Moscow to Vladivostok – the Trans-Siberian Railway – the longest train journey in the world. Taking seven days it covered 5,700 miles travelling across mountains, steppes and rivers as well as going through 146 stations.
The Trans-Siberian Railway is jam-packed with information about the history of the railway and many of the towns and villages that the train travels through. It also recounts stories from local people who live on the line as well as tips for travellers.
The comic-style pen and ink and watercolour illustrations by Anna Desnitskaya are meticulous in their detail with plenty to look at. There’s a lot to digest here and it’s definitely a book to dip in and out of.
