What's Inside?
by Isabel Minhos Martins
Age Range: Under_5
What’s Inside this Book?
Portuguese duo Isabelle Minhós Martins and Madalena Matoso have created another fun activity book full of visual puzzles that will certainly keep children guessing.
Each page opens with a question such as – 'What is inside Granny’s beach bag?' The next spread shows all the items in her bag: a ball of pink wool with a crochet needle, a wet swimming costume in a plastic bag, a recipe for pudding, a packet of melted chocolate biscuits, ice cream sticks and approximately fifty grains of sand!
Other questions follow: Why is there a playing card in the fridge? Where is mother’s earring? Find the contents of the fridge or Mum’s handbag and what’s on the bedroom wall?
Matoso's striking illustrations are dominated by four main colours – red, black, green and white. The background page colours themselves come in white, red, green and pink or a combination, with text in black, red and white making the items stand out and easily identifiable.
What’s Inside? is a clever idea for a memory game that will entertain children across different age groups. Younger children will enjoy identifying the various items on each page while slightly older ones can answer the questions at the back of the book where there are further suggestions of things to find.
