Little Ballerina
by Hélène Kérillis
Age Range: 6-8
Laura is running late for her ballet rehearsal and arrives after all the other students are already on stage. As she is changing into her tutu everything suddenly goes blank. She finds herself transported to nineteenth-century Paris where she has become Rosita and has the opportunity to perform on stage with Degas’ famous ballerinas. First, though, she must save one of the other dancers from a jealous rival.
This is a charming story by French author Hélène Kérillis who has used Edgar Degas masterpiece ‘The Rehearsal of the Ballet on Stage’ as the inspiration for this story. With bold, bright illustrations by Lucie Albon this book will appeal to all those children interested in dance as well as being an introduction to the work of Degas.
At the back of the book there is a stunning reproduction of Degas’ masterpiece together with information about his life and work.
Another engaging art book from Prestel in their ‘Pictures That Tell Stories’: Art for Children series.
