Why is there a need?

Only a tiny percentage of current UK children's books were originally written in a language other than English.  According to Outside In World's own statistics the figure is probably less than 2% (click on the pdf below for further information).

As such, the UK is missing out on a wealth of exciting new writing and illustration from all over the world.  Such books also have a key role to play in supporting cross-cultural understanding, respect and dialogue.
