Searching for Books
All the books on the Outside In World 'Book Browse' are linked up to Amazon.co.uk however; you may find that the link does not always work. When we receive a review copy from the publisher we enter the ISBN of that book but these numbers can change over time, perhaps because a book has been reprinted or it has gone out of print. As a small organisation, maintaining the links of over 900 books on a regular basis is not possible but we do try to check books that we have specifically highlighted in articles, booklists and activities.
Sometimes you will find that the link takes you through to a different edition, this is because the version we have is no longer available or a paperback edition has been published.
If you find the link to Amazon doesn't work it is always worth checking the Amazon website directly to see if there is a later edition. Check the US site too especially if it is a book published outside the UK although be aware that the postage could be a lot more.
Searching for a Book
A Google search will also highlight the many different booksellers that sell online. There is also BookFinder and Used Book Search For out of print books Alibris
Libraries
Visit your library to see if they have a copy of the book you are looking for and if not, ask them to order a copy or you can search the library databases of the relevant library authority and order a copy yourself. You can search the World's largest Library Catalogue and by putting in your postcode you can find where copies of a specific book are available.
If a book was published in the UK then chances are that it will be available through the Interlibrary Loan (abbreviated to ILL) service via the British Library. This is a service whereby a user of one library can borrow books that are owned by another library. Books can be ordered through your local library, however, do check if there is a charge for this service.
New Books
Visit your local book shop to see if they have a copy in stock or ask them to order a copy for you. Many bookshops now also offer an online ordering service.
Most publishers sell books directly from their websites and you can always check to see if they have a copy of the book you want – see links and organisations for a list of publishers.
As well as checking both Amazon websites you could also try Lovereading4kids and The BookPeople
Second-hand Books
There are other online second-hand booksellers that are also worth looking at such as AbeBooks who have millions of new, second-hand, rare, and out-of-print books from thousands of booksellers around the world.
